Don and Rose Jackson Celebrate Their 47th Wedding Anniversary
May 21st, 2013
Don Jackson and I got married forty-seven years ago today. I’m writing to the Stellar Awards community on our anniversary because I feel so very blessed for so many reasons, but today I especially thank God for Don Jackson, and I want you to know why.  On Valentine’s Day this year, I received a confirmed breast cancer diagnosis. That was, to say the least, a stunning and life-changing piece of information. I had gone to the doctor alone, and sat in her office praying and crying until I could gather myself and drive home.  When I told Don the news, he took me in his arms and said, “That wasn’t the report we wanted, but we’ll get through this together. We have faith in God, and we’ll get through this.” Just his comforting voice, his tender hug, and his pronounced faith in God gave me such a lift that I cannot even describe. And he has been with me every step of the way, rearranging his work and travel schedule so that he could be there for every chemotheraphy treatment and every doctor’s appointment. He has held me and comforted me when I felt weak. He has taken responsibility for making sure that I eat, fixing breakfast, dinner, and cleaning the kitchen afterwards, and never once has he complained.

I have been hesitant to publicly announce this challenge that we’re facing, but the Gospel Music community, the Stellar Awards community, has been such a blessing to us that today, on our anniversary,  I felt moved to let you know that like Angelina Jolie and Zoraida Sambolin, I celebrate and praise God for the man in my life, Don Jackson, who is standing with me and easing the difficulty of this breast cancer journey.

We welcome your prayers, and I want to remind all of the ladies to get regular checkups. Early detection is the key, as it was for me.

God bless you,

Rose Jackson

Hi Rose, I felt compelled to write to you because you have been a tremendous inspiration to me since I was a young teenager in the Y.E.C. group at Christ Universal Temple. When I read your blog I immediately turned within and asked God to infuse and permeate you with His healing Light. Your journey is in God's hands and I only wish you the very best. I've returned to C.U.T. after a very long absence. I'm caring for my mom who has the challenge of Alzheimer's. I spoke to Don Jackson this past Sunday, but I don't think he remembers me. Nonetheless, hopefully, I see you around so I can give you a hug. May God's love surround and keep you and Don in His loving care. God Bless You both!

I thank you for sharing a significant private part of your life with me and the entire world. You encourage others that are faced with cancer. Breast cancer or any other kind of cancer or disease that causes a person to change their entire life that has been a normal routine. Cancer is something that I am familiar with because it has been affected so many of my family members.

I am finishing a book on how my family as had to walk through this battle several times. I thank God for your transparency. This is not an easy thing to share with people. Ms. Jackson, God, is with you and I know you understand this. I am studying the gospels in the bible. The miracles of Jesus and the unbelief that the people had after watching him perform miracle after miracle. Keep trusting and believing knowing that God has you in the palm of His hands. He made every part of your being. Every cell, your skin, your memory, your entire being. Lean and depend on Him, Jesus, and please keep your light shining because as the scripture says, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. I can only tell you when they said I had a small cyst on the tip of my skull, I called on the name of Jesus. When they checked my breast and took biopsies because they felt a lump, I called on the name of Jesus. When they said I had a slight stroke, I called on the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus.

God Bless,

Shiela Owens

Rose & Don, you both truly exemplify what God\'s love is all about! Don, you are truly a Man of God for standing by your wife & you should be commended. Rose, you most definitely have to be a Proverbs 31 Woman! You both let me know that there is hope for a single woman like me. God bless you both!
